Welcome
to Spotted Acres, Dalmatian Adoption and Rescue. It is our goal to provide rescue and
adoption services and provide for the well being of Dalmatians who have fallen on hard
times, or whose owners just can't keep them and want to be sure they go to a good family.
We provide shelter, sustenance, love, medical care, socialization and foster homes.
It seems like we've been in the rescue business all our lives because of our love of
animals and penchant for taking them in. Our Dalmatian Rescue Operation became a
formal business in November of 1998 and we have since then placed many dogs in loving
homes with very special families. There are Dalmatian rescue organization all over the country and unfortunately
there are more homeless Dalmatians than we can all handle. If you are thinking about
adding a dog to your family, please consider a rescued Dalmatian. We have many to choose
from, and all have been loved and given proper medical attention. We spay and neuter all
of our dogs as well as get them current on all their shots.
There are
so many wonderful Dalmatians out there to be rescued, and we just don't have room for all
of them. If you can't take one home yourself, please try to help us to find good
homes, so we can rescue those beautiful Dals' that have no home. |

Please
take this time to preview our dogs on the below list. Most of the dogs we have are
rescued, and therefore have a very sad history with tales of abuse. We do have some
dogs however, that are AKC registered with papers, whose owners just can't keep them.
Most of the dogs listed below have their picture for you to look at. (Keep in
mind how pictures never do anyone justice). Now then, it's time to come and pay us a
visit. The dogs would love the company. A
relationship between dog and owner is a very special one and you never quite know which
lovable Dal you'll hit it off with, so be sure to bring the family with you.
To adopt a
Dal, is a simple process. A little paperwork is just about all there is to it.
We do request a $35.00 tax deductible donation to Spotted Acres to help us cover
the medical costs for all the dogs. Although this could never cover the actual cost
of caring for these Dals, it does help offset the spay and neuter, shots, and other
veterinary service costs.
Please review our list of the
dogs we currently have at the shelter along with others not yet listed.

So you really want a Dalmatian?
Here's a quick look at the give and take of owning a tedious breed.
| PROS |
CONS |
| Happy, enthusiastic, loves to play!! |
Lively, active! |
|
| Good family dog. |
May be too lively for very young children. |
|
| Intelligent, willing to please, quick to learn. |
Not precise. Need gentle, motivational obedience training
as early as possible. Not for people who will not set clear limits. |
|
| People oriented, excellent house dog and indoor-outdoor
companion. These dogs need to be part of the family and given lots
of love. |
Not a yard/kennel dog. |
|
| Natural affinity for horses, likes activities such as
hiking, jogging, biking and rollerblading with owner. |
Needs exercise. |
|
| Natural watch dog, polite when introduced properly, loyal
to family and close friends, will protect when appropriate, not a biter unless provoked. |
May be aloof with strangers, not a''loves everyone"
dog, will protect home and car, will bite if pushed |
|
| Generally good with other dogs, especially if
well-socialized. Many households have multiple Dals (or other breeds). |
Not generally "pack"oriented, may be quarrelsome
with strange dogs. Males often do not like other males. |
|
| Very easy to groom, clean, and little doggy odor. |
Any shedding is year-round, the short hair tends to cling
to clothes and furniture. |
|
| Generally healthy and easy to own, little hip
dysplasia, very low incidence of eye problems, hardy but short coat makes them unsuitable
for staying outdoors in very cold weather. |
Genetic deafness (all breeding stock and puppies should be
BAER tested), uric acid anomaly predisposes Dalmatians to urate stones, need low purine
diet, tendency toward skin and coat problems. |
